What are Soapstone Countertops?

Soapstone countertops are metamorphic rock mainly composed of the magnesium-rich mineral talc. It is produced by heat, pressure, and an influx of fluids. Depending on its geographic location, it has varying amounts of other minerals such as micas, chlorite, amphiboles, quartz, magnesite, and carbonates. It is a relatively soft, very dense, highly heat-resistant material.

Why Choose Soapstone Countertops?

Soapstone is a natural stone with unique characteristics. Run your hand across it to experience its signature “soapy” texture. Soapstone is not as readily available as granite and quartz, making it ideal for those who want an impeccable and exclusive product.

You’ll love that Soapstone is naturally non-porous, so it does not stain, isn’t etched by citrus, wine, acids, or chemicals, and isn’t harmed by a hot pot placed directly on the countertop. We recommend a mineral oil treatment to enhance its natural darkening process to ensure your Soapstone darkens evenly.

While Soapstone is limited in color from white to charcoal, if it fits your design scheme and budget, this high-quality countertop is worth the investment for its hardworking performance.

Soapstone Countertop Care

Soapstone countertops are cleaned by wiping with soap and water or with any standard household cleaner.

Other Exotic & Natural Stones

Because of their extraordinary resistance and durability, natural stone materials have been used throughout history in architecture, construction, and design. These slabs generally resist high temperatures making them especially suitable for kitchen countertops. Furthermore, their beauty and exclusivity are created by nature, making each one a unique and timeless piece.

Throughout history, StoneMark has worked with many natural stones, including agate slabs, limestone, onyx, and travertine. Created by nature, each offers unique designs, so no two slabs are exactly alike. They are fire and heat-resistant, color stable, and of superior quality.

Your natural granite countertops slab is a one-of-kind durable piece of stone that can increase the value of a home. From subtle to bold, granite is full of many types of minerals resulting in shiny flecks to longer intense veining with overall hues from light to dark and a variety of colors. Granite stone also contains natural anti-bacterial and stain proof characteristics, and is water, scratch, and heat resistant. With these qualities, granite countertops are made to withstand a lot of wear and tear.
