Keep reading to learn what to expect working with StoneMark during, after, and before the countertop installation process and the preparations you need to make when the scheduled day arrives.

How to Prepare for Countertop Installation

Before installing new countertops, the old ones must be removed to make space. Our team of skilled workers can handle this task, so you don’t have to worry about lifting or disposing of heavy countertop slabs. They will carefully remove the old countertops and minimize the damage to your home.

During the removal process, our team will also disconnect any plumbing fixtures in the kitchen or bathroom to ensure they are not in the way or damaged during the installation. You can help prepare the room for the installation team. Remove any items you need during the day, such as food, electronics, or utensils, as installation may take several hours. Clear a path from the entrance to the room being remodeled, and keep children and pets away from the work area.

During the Countertops Installation Process

During your stone countertop installation, it is crucial to maintain a clear and unobstructed area to enable our installers to work efficiently. Stone materials are heavy and can pose a risk if not handled properly. Therefore, it is advisable for anyone who is not a professional installer to remain at a safe distance from the work area to prevent potential injuries.

Step 1: Measure and Plan

After you place your order, we will send a laser measurement technician to the space for your new stone countertops before we start producing them. We utilize the latest template technology, the Laser Products 2D/3D. This innovative technology guarantees a custom fit and lets you keep your old tops in place while we template and craft new ones.

Step 2: Select the Right Slab for Your Countertops

If you plan to renovate your kitchen, one of the most crucial choices you’ll make is the material for your kitchen countertops. Stone countertops are the most popular option for kitchens due to their attractive appearance, long-lasting nature, and versatility. However, each type of stone slab has distinct characteristics, and you’ll need to select the stone slab that best suits your specific requirements.

Due to the diverse countertop slabs, we highly recommend visiting our Louisville headquarters to explore color and slab options. Our showroom will ensure you approve of the feel and look of your stone. If we don’t have your style in stock, we can provide you with high-quality slab photos or source the preferred slabs from our trusted supplier warehouses.

Step 4: Reconnect Electrical / Plumbing/ Tile

At StoneMark, we are stone countertops experts, but our team doesn’t specialize in tile, carpentry, or plumbing. We highly recommend that you partner with those experts directly.

After installing a new countertop, wait 24 hours before connecting the plumbing to allow the sealant or adhesive to dry and set fully. However, your electrician or plumber can safely connect your cooktop or stove immediately. Any additional work, like carpentry or tiling, can be scheduled anytime following our completed install job.
