What is Quartzite stone?

Quartzite stone is formed when pure quartz sandstone is exposed to natural heating and pressure creating a hard, non-foliated metamorphic stone. Pure quartzite is usually white to grey, though quartzite often occurs in various shades of pink and red due to varying amounts of iron oxide. Yellow, green, blue, and orange can also occur when other minerals are present.
